Friends of the Rec Annual General Meeting Wednesday 19th March 8pm at the Recreation Ground Centre.
All are invited to this meeting which will have an important effect on the future of this charity.
The Friends of the Rec have been appreciative of the support from the community over recent years in helping to raise funds to improve facilities and develop activities at the Recreation Ground and assisting at community events.
Over the last couple of years we have been fortunate in increasing our fundraising with larger events such as the Bonfire Burn 10k and we look forward to The Flaming June Half Marathon.
The Friends now offer a range of activities at the Rec particularly for older people and this is of increasing importance.
Recently Histon & Impington Parish Council agreed to acquire a 30 year leasehold interest in 12 acres of land at Bypass Farm, Histon. There is a shortage of open space in the community particularly for sporting use, childrens and young people’s activities and there is exciting potential to provide new facilities and opportunities on this site.
There will be a community consultation organised by the Parish Council to explore potential uses and opportunities.
The Friends have for a number of years been aware of the possible project which would complement the Recreation Ground and be in line with the charity’s objectives. A community fundraising involvement has been discussed and to facilitate this the objects of the charity would need to be amended. The consent from the Charity Commission has been obtained, agreement for the objects change is required from the members of the Charity and this will be discussed at a special meeting to be held after the AGM on Wednesday 19th March
A slight change in the name of the charity would be needed.
The Friend’s commitment to the Recreation Ground would remain undiminished.
