National Grid is advising motorists, schools and parents in the Histon area of Cambridge of a temporary road closure. This will commence 9 September 2013 until 30 September 2013 approximately 3 weeks. The road, Winders lane, will be closed with a diversion in place from Clay Street to Church Street.
The closures are needed to safeguard engineers, pedestrians and other road-users as essential work
The Grid is also advising pedestrians of a temporary footpath closure. This will commence 16 September 2013 until 7 October 2013 approximately 3 weeks. The footpath will be closed on Kingsway from the junction of Clay Street to the junction of Narrow Lane. National Grid would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused. This is essential work that will ensure local people continue to benefit from safe and reliable gas supplies for decades to come
National Grid is working with tRIIO, a partnership of Morrison Utility Services and Skanska, to upgrade two hundred and forty four metres of gas pipes in Winders Lane and Kingsway. The ageing metal gas mains are being replaced with hard-wearing plastic pipe that has a life-span of 80 years if left undisturbed in the ground.
The project is part of an £800 million investment National Grid is making to renew gas mains in the East of England region running up until 2021. Over the next 12 months the company will be upgrading some 350kms of pipe in the region
